THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: RM Education Solutions India (RM ESI), a Technopark-based firm, has instituted a scholarship scheme for funding the undergraduate and postgraduate education of children from economically backward families.
RM ESI recently invited applications for this scheme under which the course fee —subject to a maximum of Rs. 50,000 per student per year — would be borne by the company. The scheme was limited to natives of Kerala who had scored 75 per cent marks or above for Plus Two examinations. Applicants should have applied for admission to, or received admission in reputed colleges. Further, they also had to hail from families whose annual family income level would make them eligible for the Below Poverty Level classification.
From among the 19 students who applied, 13 were short-listed for an interview. Three students were selected for the scholarship.
While Divya Divakaran received the scholarship for doing her B.Sc Physics at the UC College Aluva, A. A. Jayapriya would be supported by RM ESI for her B.Tech programme at the Amrita School of Engineering, Kollam.
The third recipient C. R. Remya received admission for the BCA programme at the Amrita School of Arts and Science, Kollam. According to a press note issued by RM ESI the funding under the scholarship programme will be provided for the duration of these courses. Next year the company expects to fund six students and to keep adding to this number in successive years.
“It will be a rewarding experience for us if, through this scholarship scheme, we can make a little difference to raise the level of education in our State,” CEO of RM ESI, Connell Viegas, said in a release. RM ESI was set up at the Technopark in February 2003 and supports its UK-based parent company RM in providing software solutions through a range of education related products and services for schools in the UK, North America and Australia.
