THE HINDU, 30 September 2003

THE $300-million RM plc, the UK-based specialists in the application of technology to education, has opened a software development centre at Technopark here.

Styled RM Education Solutions India, the 8,000-sq ft facility housed in the `Gayatri' building within the Technopark campus was declared open on Monday by Mr Tim Pearson, Group CEO, RM plc.

The centre will employ over 80 professionals to start with, including developers, testers and technical writers, according to Mr Connell Viegas, Chief Executive Officer, RM Education Solutions India.

The company has made an initial commitment of Rs 3 crore in Technopark and has charted out an ambitious growth plan for itself, he said.

"We are here to work with RM to assure quality and stability by rapidly ramping up and providing comprehensive services that are cost effective," Mr Viegas added.

Some of the user-friendly educational software that RM plc created for schools in the UK would now be sourced from this facility, and this will provide the company with a competitive advantage, said Mr Graeme Dewart, Managing Director, RM Learning, a group company.

"The centre will support RM in developing leading edge software solutions for a wide range of futuristic education related products and services targeted at schools in the UK and Australia," said Mr Colin Watson, Commercial Director, RM Learning.

Founded in 1973, RM plc has expanded its range of products and services.
