In 2007 our target was to reduce energy consumption by 8% from the previous year, and our Indian office achieved 18%. We’re now actively seeking ways to meet our target for 2008, which is to reduce carbon emissions.

The Green RM team created general user awareness on wastage of natural resources. A Microsoft PowerPoint presentation on Green tips is being broadcast at our Reception.

There is an online Green RM discussion board for employees to share Green knowledge and ideas. Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ was screened in the office.

The most high profile Green event of 2007 was RM Education Solutions India sponsoring 40 Tree Guards for seedlings planted by the Kerala Forest Department on the Trivandrum National Highway leading to Technopark. The Kerala Forest Department had invited participation of institutions, business firms etc. in sponsoring tree guards for providing protection to the seedlings.

RM's tree guard initiative got mentioned in NASSCOM's report entitled “Indian IT/ITES Industry: Impacting the Economy and Society 2007 – 08”, which covered innovative community based programmes for sustainable development carried out in the Indian IT/ITES industry by companies aware of their social responsibility.

Some simple tips we employ to save natural resources

	Switching over to TFT monitors to save energy
	Energy audits conducted regularly (checking that workstations, servers and monitors are switched off daily after work).
	Using stationery paper made from sugarcane waste.
	Changing printer settings to print double-side by default.
	Keep potted plants in the office & avail car pooling to reduce the carbon footprint.
